Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Company invites you to celebrate the release of a Bald Eagle on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 11:00am. This event will take place at Mercer County Park Northwest located off of Cold Soil Road and Keefe Road in Lawrenceville, NJ.
The Bald Eagle has been under the rehabilitation of Toms River Avian Care, a federal and state licensed volunteer wild bird rehabilitation center located in Toms River, NJ. The eagle originally was found in poor health in Central, NJ where it was trapped in a retention ditch and was weak and dehydrated. The Eagle is a female adult bird, 11 years old and was banded by the State when she was born. The Eagle has been at Toms River Avian Care for 6 weeks feeding on fish and rodents and gaining strength in a flight cage.
Assistant Chief Gary Wasko invites you to stop by to celebrate the release of the Bald Eagle. "We are thrilled that Toms River Avian Care will release the Eagle in honor of our volunteer services at Station 23. The Eagle signifies strength, honor and patriotism-all characteristics that firefighting supports." Wasko concluded by saying that "It is our hope that the healthy bird will be released off of our Ladder Tower and will have a successful first flight back to nature."
